The Covenant Discipleship Group Training was held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 with Steve Manskar from Discipleship Ministries in Nashville, TN.
Covenant Discipleship Groups (CDG’s) are groups of up to 7 people who write a covenant together that reflects Wesley’s general Rule of Discipleship: To witness to Jesus Christ in the world and to follow his teachings through acts of compassion, justice, worship and devotion under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Groups meet together to encourage one another in their walk of faith as we all seek to become more mature disciples. This small group is the model the early Methodist movement was founded on, so these groups really take us back to our methodical roots. Wesley once said that…”the soul and the body make a (person) and the spirit and discipline make a Christian.”
Covenant Discipleship Groups help Christians to grow in loving God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength and to love their neighbors as themselves. They are a proven and effective way of forming leaders in discipleship who help the congregation live out its mission with Christ in the world.
My sincere hope and prayer is that you will consider in learning more about CDG’s and how this might fill a need in your faith journey and how this can fill a need in our congregation. Steve taught us how to start our pilot groups for youth and adults and how to write our covenants.
