McMahan Chapel Day @ 10:00 a.m.
October 12, 2019
Facebook post – McMahan Chapel UMC, September 27 at 5:52 PM
Saturday, October 12, 2019 we will celebrate 186 years of continuous worship at McMahan Chapel at 10:30am. That service will be followed by a covered dish lunch in the Jack and Charlsie Maund Event Center. Our speaker will be Dr. Rev. Dick White, Texas Annual Conference East District Superintendent. Dr. White was born and raised in our East Texas and has served many of the churches in this area.
Music will be led by Chris Watlington, Music Director for First United Methodist Church in Center. Our special music will be performed by First United Methodist Church San Augustine Praise Team.
We look forward to a service that will interest everyone. If you’ve never been to McMahan Chapel please come and check out our museum and Prayer Garden. In addition to Dr. White we will have a surprise guest from the past to show everyone the Spring, where it all began when Samuel Doak McMahan stopped to water his horses and build his home that served as the first worship site. One of the first circuit riders, Littleton Fowler, loved McMahan Chapel so much that he asked that he be buried under the pulpit of the Chapel. As we worship in our 4th building, each one had to be built in the same spot to insure that his grave not be disturbed.
To reach McMahan Chapel from San Augustine, take State Highway 21 East 10 miles, turn right onto Spur 35 for 2 miles. From Milam, take State Highway 21 West approximately 10 miles turning left onto Spur 35.
We will be celebrating 186 years of Christ and His Church. This is a Christian celebration of our Protestant history in Texas. Bring a covered dish if you wish. It is not necessary. Just come and feast on the good news of Christ. Need more information? Call 936.275.6843.
