Prayer Cross Ministry

I stood with my wife, Lisa, and many other citizens on Center’s square, holding our American flags to honor a fallen soldier.  The only sounds to be heard were the tens of American flags flapping in the wind and the sound of gravel being rolled over by the slowly moving hearse, carrying the flag draped coffin.  I knew then I needed to do something.  I did not know what and like all Christians we are taught to pray.

Once we arrived home, I immediately went for a walk with our dog, Wilson in the quiet woods surrounding our house and I prayed hard to God for guidance.  I prayed, “I wanted to show others that I and my church cared about everyone and how do I go about this.”  A few days later while driving to town I heard God explain to me what I needed to do and what I was going to do.  I told Lisa what I had heard and drew the Prayer Cross on a piece of paper to show her.

When we arrived back home I went to work in my shop cutting and drilling on different pieces of wood until I had God’s cross in front of me. “So this is what I am supposed to do,” I thought, to spread God’s message of Love to All.  The Prayer Cross was made, the black cord was tied, the brown plug was installed and the cross was placed in the white padded box and now what was I going to do?

A Friday afternoon soon arrived and it was time to visit one of the nursing homes our church visits to celebrate the resident’s birthdays and Ann Harmon was our accompanist.  Before we started, I showed Ann the open box with the Prayer Cross lying inside and told her what I wanted to do with the cross, she looked at the cross and then looked at me and I thought, “What have I done?”  She never uttered a word for a long few seconds and then she looked up at me and said, “This is the answer to my prayers; I was praying for something that might help our church’s Prayer Life.”

The Prayer Cross Ministry began and it has continued because of the support of members inside the church and those outside of our church.
